Digital IMAX arrives at Center Valley, PA

April 25, 2011 – 1:58 pm

Pennsylvania’s The Morning Call reports:

The IMAX experience begins even before the movie does. When you first walk into the theater, the size of the huge, curved screen will be overwhelming. Even what you can’t see is seriously big — enormous loudspeaker systems hidden behind the screen and a pair of digital projectors in the projection booth, each the size of a large refrigerator.

Then the action starts. You’ll flinch at the sound of gunshots to your left, then inadvertently duck to avoid the exploding tanker truck careening towards you. You’re not just watching a film — you’re immersed in it.

The experience will soon be just a quick drive away. On Friday, the Lehigh Valley’s first IMAX theater opens at the Rave 16 Theater in the Promenade Shops at Saucon Valley. The first film is the action flick “Fast Five,” starring Freedom High School grad Dwayne Johnson, aka “The Rock,” and Vin Diesel.

The multiplex is one of 17 Rave locations having a theater remodeled for IMAX, with a floor-to-ceiling and wall-to-wall curved screen, dual projectors and an enhanced sound system.
