New multiplex and IMAX coming to San Bernardino

Maya Cinemas has signed a development agreement with the San Bernardino City Council to renovate and expand the closed CinemaStar movie complex. The renovation will include a 3D IMAX screen. The Press-Enterprise reports:

[Maya’s president and chief operating officer Frank] Haffar said he plans to open the new IMAX facility about seven months after taking possession of the property.

The preliminary renovations will cost Maya about $5.2 million, and installing the IMAX screen will cost nearly $3 million more, the report states.

Restrictions in IMAX contracts will mean the San Bernardino theater will be the only 3-D screen between Ontario and Cathedral City, the report states. A second development plan, to be completed within two years, includes office, retail and restaurants on the theater property. A third phase, to be completed within seven years, would include more retail.
