IMAX to increase UK presence

IMAX is gearing up to expand its UK operation from 14 to 50 cinemas as it attempts to lure families away from rival home entertainment offerings.
Talks are said to be underway with potential distributors to grow the bigscreen cinema chain’s presence over the coming years.
Odeon UCI is the UK’s largest IMAX franchisee with 11 3D screens, and could be expected to benefit from the expansion.
Recent releases Cars 2 and Transformers: Dark Of The Moon, pictured, as well as the upcoming Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 2, were all designed to be shown on big screens like those offered by IMAX.

Hi there BMZ
This is great news only last week I sent an e-mail to Odeon, with a suggestion of possible new Imax theatres. All on the Odeon chain of course. There are many more towns and cities in the UK that could easily support an Imax theatre.
Something I don’t quite understand is the reluctance of other chains in the UK to install Imax. Instead they seem to be pursuing their own giant screen agenda, e.g. Vue cinemas have VueExtreme and Empire have Empire Impact.
Yes the screens were big and flat ( no curve ) the sound was good, but nothing like as good as Imax though.
There some great news on the Imax front though. The Odeon Swiss Cottage in north London which will have been closed for 6 months by the time it reopens on September 16th. will indeed be Odeon’s latest Imax theatre. This is not a multiplex but the conversion of an Odeon built in the 1930′s. I just can’t wait to see this one apparently the Imax screen is going to be quite something. Pity its not going to be open for “Harry Potter ….” and “Super 8″.
yours sincerely

Thanks rogmax. Yes IMAX looks to be expanding all over Europe with new installations announced in Portugal. We’ll keep an eye on their expansion.
