IMAX theatre back in London? Mission Impossible?

Well, it seems not.

Six years after the IMAX at Western Fair was closed, Londoners have a new IMAX theatre at Silver City which opens Friday with Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol.

A digital and 3D compatible version of the big-screen, big-sound movie experience was installed in Auditorium 12, one of just 14 IMAX theatres among the 1,351 theatres operated by Cineplex Entertainment across the country.

“We’ve had great success with IMAX across the country. So, why not London? London is a great community,” said Pat Marshall, vice-president of communications for Cineplex.

“Londoners have been tremendously supportive of Cineplex over the years, such as our successful VIP Lounge at Westmount. For an extra $5 above the normal ticket price of $11.50 for adults and a $4 premium of the regular $8.99 for children and seniors, theatregoers can enjoy the IMAX experience.

“We thought London would be a great place for IMAX and since London lost its IMAX, we thought you might want one back.”
