The Fay Observer writes:

The Sandhills Cinemas 10 movie theater in Southern Pines is planning a more than $1 million expansion that includes an IMAX theater, more screens and a cafe.

Construction is scheduled to begin in early spring and should finish by October, said Bruce Frank, president and CEO of Frank Theatres, which owns the Sandhills Cinemas 10.

“We’re hoping to begin lobby renovations in February or March to accommodate the new concession area that will feature a lounge and bar,” said Frank. “We’ll serve tapas, finger foods and appetizers. And you’ll be able to take your food with you. We’ll be offering a lot of new amenities.”

Long-term plans include turning the Sandhills Cinema 10 into a family entertainment complex, Frank said.
