Work is currently underway on converting the Empire Leicester Square’s vast, much loved and now dearly departed screen one into two smaller auditoria.
I have now been told by multiple good sources that one of these new rooms is to house an IMAX screen. The rumours were around from the off, but I’m now confident of their substance.
Empire Cinemas are expected to announce the news officially next week, though at the moment, they’re not speaking.
I hate to say this guys but your article is miss leading. Its not Leicester you are talking about its Leicester Square, in London’s west end. Leicester is a city in the east midlands of England.
Yes this is quite a surprise that the premiere shop window of the UK exhibition industry ( Leicester Square ) is going to get an IMAX. The premiere IMAX theatre in London the BFI IMAX is not actually in the west end, but about 20 minutes walk away from Leicester Square. Its great news that they may be getting IMAX but at thesame time sad that their 1300 seat auditorium is being sub divided. This is a truely a beautiful auditorium and a great place to see a movie.
fixed!
