The theater is one of five nationwide slated to get an auditorium featuring the multidimensional IMAX projection process by July, according to an announcement Wednesday by Tennessee-based Regal Entertainment Group.

The theater’s arrival is part of a 31-screen deal reached last year between Regal and Toronto-headquartered IMAX Corp., reaching 20 U.S. markets.

Regal spokesman Robbie Arrington said via e-mail that no specific date has been set for the Temecula opening.

UPDATE: A digital IMAX theater is not coming to Temecula as previously reported, but rather Murrieta. The Press-Enterprise writes:

A representative of Toronto-headquartered IMAX said Friday that Regal Entertainment Group erred this week when it announced that an IMAX movie screen was on its way to Regal’s Edwards Stadium 15 multiplex at The Promenade mall.

Instead, watch for IMAX to arrive later this year, possibly by summer, at The Movie Experience in Murrieta, operators of that theater as well as IMAX confirmed.

Longtime Inland movie theater owner Bruce Sanborn, whose family operates The Movie Experience, said he was surprised Thursday when he read newspaper reports of Regal’s announcement, because his theater has been involved in behind-the-scenes planning with IMAX since 2007.

The Movie Experience, in fact, has an exclusivity agreement with IMAX to serve that part of the county, which includes territory running north to Riverside and south past Temecula to the Agua Tibia Wilderness area, straddling the border with San Diego County.
