Dutch cineplex CineMec opens giant screen digital cinema, launches 3D summer program June 27

CineMec CEO Gerben Kuipers has announced the launch of CineMec XL, the company’s brand new leading digital giant screen cinema with state-of-the-art technology in 3D film exhibition that sets a new benchmark in film exhibition. CineMec XL will be using a new 3D system with passive 3D glasses. The new cinema boasts a seating capacity for 1050 people, a 180m2 silver screen, and two Christie CP2000 SB digital projectors. In addition the cinema features the latest in digital sound technology from QSC Audio in California with, an impressive output of 20,000 watt RMS, promising visitors the ultimate in cinema experience.
CineMec is a frontrunner in Holland when it comes to digital cinema and 3D exhibition. In 2003, the company was the first in Holland to go digital and was the first to exhibit 3D films with great success. In 2005, CineMec was awarded Best Cinema in Holland by the public, annually attracting an average of 423,000 visitors.
CineMec also plans to launch its “Experience the Sea in 3D” Summer program with the opening of its giant screen digital theater:
CineMec XL kicks off this summer season with a special themed day-program, “Experience the Sea in 3D,” with special premieres of 3D digitally produced documentary films appealing to the whole family. Through deals closed with nWave Studios and 3D Entertainment Distribution, CineMec XL has secured exclusive rights for the Dutch-speaking Benelux in order to execute their strategic plans for 3D distribution. The themed program consists of the breathtaking ocean experiences Dolphins and Whales: Tribes of the Ocean, Ocean Wonderland, Sharks, and Monsters from the Deep. These films have already proven to be a huge success abroad: Dolphins and Whales achieved 47,000 visitors in the first two weeks in Germany, making it the biggest opening of a 3D documentary film ever. These internationally acclaimed underwater films can be experienced daily during the summer season in CineMec XL.
