Mississauga News: Mall in Philippines orders two more IMAX systems
November 17, 2009 – 12:49 pmThe Mississauga News reports:
The success of the first IMAX theatre system installed in The Philippines has prompted a deal with the owners of that country’s largest mall to add two more giant-screen projection systems.
IMAX, which has corporate offices in Mississauga and New York, announced today that it has signed a deal with SM Prime Holdings for new theatres in the cities of Manila and Cebu.
“The deal follows the tremendous success of SM’s first IMAX theatre, which has been the highest-grossing screen in the country since it opened in 2006,” the Sheridan Park company said in a press release. The two digital theatre systems are scheduled to be installed in late 2009.
“International growth remains an important part of our commercial strategy, and we couldn’t be happier with SM Prime Holding’s decision to expand its network in the Philippines following the success of its first theatre,” said IMAX co-chairs and co-CEOs Richard L. Gelfond and Bradley J. Wechsler.
