WalesOnline: Cardiff’s new IMAX offers the ultimate cinema experience
December 18, 2009 – 2:54 pmWalesOnline reports:
WALES’ first IMAX theatre opens to the public tonight.
Featuring a floor-to-ceiling silver screen and laser aligned digital sound, the cutting-edge new cinema at Cardiff Bay’ s Odeon will launch with James Cameron’s highly anticipated Avatar in 3D.
But only those who booked ahead will get to see it.
“We sold 1,700 tickets in the first seven days they went on sale,” said Odeon general manager Matt Whitehouse.
“The auditorium can seat 290 people and we’re showing Avatar three times each day so we imagine the cinema will be packed out all weekend.”
While IMAX theatres have existed for several years, the £500,000 Cardiff Bay auditorium is one of the first in Europe to feature revolutionary digital projection technology which delivers crystal clear images and laser-aligned digital sound to envelop the audience.
