Simpsonville IMAX gets finishing touches

South Carolina’s WYFF Greenville reports on the soon to be opened Simpsonville digital IMAX theater:

It’s showtime for Simpsonville. Great Escape, a 14 screen cineplex and IMAX theater, is set to open April 15th.

“We don’t have to drive to Woodruff road anymore to watch a movie. If I could stay away from Woodruff road my life would be 100 percent better,” said Simpsonville resident Drico Kirksey.

Construction at Great Escape is about a month behind schedule because of rain and snow delays. “Every morning I drive by my kids get to take a look, and every morning they say ‘Daddy, when is it going to open?'” Kirksey said.

Small business owners along Simpsonville’s Main Street hope Great Escape attracts new customers. “We would love to keep people in Simpsonville and not have to go to Woodruff road,” said Heather Davenport of Bargain Babies consignment. “I think it will draw a lot of younger people and older couples up here,” said Candace Jackson of Downtown Sweets n’ Eats.
