Virginia’s Albemarle County to get digital IMAX theater

September 30, 2010 – 5:19 pm

The Daily Progress reports:

Regal Entertainment Group announced Thursday that it would bring a new 14-screen theater with IMAX to a future Albemarle County town center, the area’s first such venue.

The theater will be located in the Albemarle Place development, which comprises 65 acres near the busy intersection of Hydraulic Road and U.S. 29. Russ Nunley, a spokesman for the company, said the theater is being built as a part of the project’s first phase and the company is planning for a fall 2012 opening.

“The addition of IMAX is another amenity that’s been missing from the Charlottesville market that I think moviegoers are really going to embrace,” Nunley said.

Margaret Lack seemed to be of that persuasion. The Madison County resident was at one of Regal’s other theaters — the four-screen in Charlottesville’s Seminole Square shopping center — to watch a movie Thursday afternoon, and responded with a one-word “wow” when told of Regal’s new plans.
